Club History
The Willetton Junior Football Club was founded
in 1971, as Willetton Sports Club (Junior Football Division).
It was felt necessary to form a new club, as boys who lived in the
Willetton area were having trouble getting a game with the adjoining
Riverton club due to the excess of numbers.
The foundation committee consisted of:
| Ian Adkins |
President |
| Camm Rielly |
Treasurer |
| Kevin Abbot |
Secretary |
| Dave Hackett |
|
| Ray Hagen |
|
| Bert Nye |
|
| Terry Stammers |
|
| Mr Mathews |
|
| Mr Bradley |
|
The club initially fielded two teams in the East Fremantle jurisdiction
in the 9's and 11's, coached by Ray Hagen and Dave Hackett respectively.
In 1972, the club changed its name to the Willetton Junior Football
and Sports Club. The following year, the name was changed
to the Willetton Sports Club which had different divisions representing
various sports. The Football Division represented both junior
and senior football.
In 1980, two football divisions were formed with the senior division
joining S.S.M.N.F.L (later to become the S.F.L) and the junior
division covering the boys aged 9 to 17, playing in the East Fremantle
Football Club Junior Council.
The club has been very successful, producing both WAFL and AFL
players including, Shaun McManus, Richard Hadley, Aaron Sandilands,
Dominic Cassisi, Brett Peake and Brad Dodd. The club
can also lay claim to a string of premierships including the following:
